Abstract
Optical networks use very effectively the available fiber bandwidth and thus provide the technological platform for core networks supporting various services, e.g., 4G and 5G mobile systems. From the network operator's point of view, the most important element of the optical network design process is the minimization of network resources and estimating the moment of congestion in terms of maximum network capacity. This article analyses the performance of Flex-grid optical networks depending on the node technology chosen. Nowadays, CD-ROADM type nodes are installed in most backbone networks, but the future seems to be a complete transition to CDC-ROADM technology, which enables the use of the entire bandwidth at all edges. The research carried out has shown the advantage of the CDC-ROADM technology.
