ADIYAMAN ÜNİVERSİTESİ’NİN KENTSEL MEKÂN VE SOSYAL ÇEVRE ÜZERİNDEKİ ETKİSİ (ALTINŞEHİR MAHALLESİ’NDEKİ HANELER VE İŞLETMELER ÜZERİNE BİR İNCELEME)

Abstract

Universities are those institutions which are most capable to produce science. Scientific production is the main purpose of universities. At the same time universities contribute to social, economic and cultural deveolopment of the cities and region in which they are established. Adiyaman University which was founded in 2006, began to come forward as a dynamic institution for the development of the close surroundings and the city. The increase of the number of students and academic and administrative staff Adiyaman University in a short period of time is the essential component of this dynamism. Subject of this study is Adiyaman University’s impact on the close surrounding in the urban space and the social environment. For this reason, interviews were conducted with 200 households and 62 businesses in Altinsehir District in which Adiyaman University is situated. The interaction between the university and the surrounding area has been analyzed in the light of the data that have been obtained by the survey conducted. As a result of the research, it has been asserted that within seven years after its establishment Adiyaman University with its 15,000 students and employees has brought a mobility to the urban’s economic and social development.velopment.
