Abstract
With the rapid development of film industry in China, the domestic industry chain has been continuously improved in recent years. However, the film industry is still of high risk with frequent investment losses, insufficient growth of potential viewers in urban cinemas, and an unclear performance of domestic films among the global film market. Through establishing a multiple linear regression model, which takes the top 100 films in the box office list in 2019 as research objects, we explore variables which have a significant impact on the box office and use one-way ANOVA to analyze whether film theme is one of the factors affecting the box office. The following conclusions are obtained in this paper: (1) Score, number of potential audience, schedule and place of origin all have a significant impact on the box office. (2) The average box office of the films released in popular schedule is higher than that in the non-popular schedule. The average box office of the films produced in China is higher than that in other countries. (3) Among various themes of films, science fiction films are more popular with consumers. (4)There is a conformity effect among consumers in China’s film market in 2019. Our results have shed light on the real situation of China's film market in 2019 and provided some reference for looking for opportunities to obtain high box office.
