Abstract

East Japan Railway Company (JR East) and Mitsubishi Electric Corporation (MELCO) have developed the catenary and storage battery hybrid train system using a test car for the purpose of through operation service between electrified section and non-electrified section and decreasing environmental impact of diesel trains. We will develop commercial train Series EV-E301 employing this hybrid system and put it into service in March of 2014. We introduce mainly the propulsion system of Series EV-E301 and technical items in this paper.
