Abstract
The paper gives an informal description of the subdefinite models (S-models) proposed by the Soviet and Russian scientist A.S. Narinyani, considers systems and technologies implemented on their basis, and describes in detail the history of the creation and development of the UniCalc solver. Particular attention is paid to the use of S-models for solving financial and economic problems. The problems that hindered the widespread use of S-models and possible ways of their solving are also discussed. Prospects for the development and application of S-models at the present stage are outlined.
