Abstract
This paper will present a detailed description of the method of petrographic examination of aggregates for concrete as it has been developed for use the concrete Laboratories of the Corps of Engineers. The paper describes the differences in the procedures used which depend on the nature of the sample submitting for testing and the purpose of the examination. Suggestions are also made concerning the features to be delineated, the amount of material to be examined, and the organization and presentation of the results of the examination. The goal of this paper is that the information will clarify the concept of what is meant by petrographic examination of aggregates and ultimately contribute to greater uniformity of these examinations.
