Nowadays we may notice a rapid development of information and communication technologies and their implementation in all spheres of public life, including in the educational process. In this regard, the problem of the most effective use of electronic textbooks in teaching a foreign language becomes very urgent. The main goal of teaching foreign languages is the formation and development of the communicative culture of students, the practical mastery of a foreign language. The task of the teacher is to activate the cognitive activity of the student in the process of teaching foreign languages, to create conditions for the great skillfulness of the language for each student, to choose such teaching methods that would allow each student to show their activity, their creativity. The paper examines the specifics of an electronic textbook in teaching a foreign language. The research identifies the reasons that hinder the development of electronic textbooks in teaching English and the factors contributing to its spread. The authors present an electronic textbook as a very effective and relatively affordable method for teaching foreign languages which allows teachers to implement the principles of a differentiated and individual approach to learning.
