Abstract

ABSTRACT School counselors regularly face ethical dilemmas; however, little research has been done on school counselor usage and training with ethical decision-making models. For this study, 222 school counselors completed the School Counselor Ethical Decision-Making Survey (SCEDMS). Participants were school counselors working in elementary and secondary settings from urban, suburban, and rural environments. The majority of school counselors believed they were trained in the use of ethical decision-making models; however, a small number seemed acquainted with specific models. Implications for practice and training included practicing with models using case scenarios, expanding consultation networks, and incorporating multicultural consideration into ethical decision-making.
