Abstract
Power electronic converters are extensively used in AC/DC, DC/DC, and DC/AC conversion in renewable energy utilization. To protect the equipment in the converter circuits from overvoltages and over currents, surge arresters are placed at various locations for the protection in the converter station. Based on the location, the surge arresters experience particular kinds of complex waveforms as per IEC 60099-9 standard. An automated source that can generate the required waveforms and have better safety features is the need for the proper evaluation of the surge arresters. In the present work, an effort is made to develop an arbitrary waveform generator and a voltage amplifier, wherein the amplifier is developed for complex waveforms for the voltage level of 100V.
