Abstract

This paper introduces new electromagnetic multiphase converter (EMC) that is capable of deriving voltage and current magnitudes for protective relaying applications through vector summation of the secondary voltages generated by the converter. The phase shifts for the output voltages are created by a short-circuited winding located on one of the magnetic cores. The paper discusses EMC parameter identification and provides recommendations for creating new microprocessor-based protective relaying devices based on this technology.
