The Architectural Complex of the Nevskaia Manufacture of Baron Stieglitz: History and Problems of Reconstruction

Abstract

All of the branches of the Russian industry, including the most progressive in the XIX century — textile industry, were born in the leading industrial center SaintPetersburg. Nevskaia manufacture occupies a prominent place among the textile enterprises with its splendid examples of the “brick style” architecture. The factory founded in 1833 by a major industrialist, financier, and philanthropist L.I. Stieglitz marked the beginning of the country's industrialization and the emergence of the new trends in architecture and construction. Its multi-storey first frame buildings rise in the panorama of the Neva River.
