Abstract

Physical activity is an important part of life to safe human health. It ensures the proper functioning of the body and enables the maintenance of a dynamic balance, called homeostasis. Pro-health function is fulfilled when physical exercise is well-balanced and preceded by an appropriate body preparation, used as far as possible and adapted to the prevailing conditions. The impact of physical exertion on cardiovascular, musculoskeletal urinary and other systems have been reported in literature. Little attention is paid to liver’s metabolic changes during intensive exercises, especially on the possible negative impact of excessive physical activity. This kind of disorders can be proved by lab tests. The results are diversified and depend on person and may provide to the dysfunctions of the organ. The medical history of the presented patient – a participant of the long-distance run with acute liver and kidneys failure with neuronal and cardio-vascular symptoms have been presented. This case documents the risk of organs damage in the active people, especially liver disfunctions, in people undertaking physical activity. The work is also a synthetic compendium of knowledge on the role of the liver in the body, the influence of physical activity on the functioning of the liver and extrahepatic aspects that may affect the functioning of the organ and the levels of serum transaminases.
