Cognitive Structures and Mechanisms of Form Making in the Analysis of Controlled Flaking Process

Abstract

The paper provides a historiographic review of the problem of using the theory and methods of generative linguistics to study the mechanisms of form making in stone working technologies associated with flaking of various isotropic rocks. The authors come to the conclusion that both the theory itself and its methods are insufficient for adequate analysis and description of these form making mechanisms.
