Abstract

Plenty of existed tactile displays in the literature had limited application due to their small effective contact area of end-effector or touched surface. In this paper, a tactile display with large-effective contact area for texture perception was proposed. It could create texture sensation within an active area of 194mm × 100mm based on squeeze film effect. Furthermore, this tactile display was manufactured mainly by glass, which made it with high transparency and could be integrated with consumer electronic products. This paper presented its theoretical arithmetic, modal analysis, and actuator design. Test evaluation was also carried out and validated its feasibility and effectiveness.
