Abstract

Transmission properties of optical solitons which are periodically amplified by the stimulated Raman process in a glass fiber is numerically studied for various parameters. Optical solitons have two unique merits when used for extra high bit rate transmission systems: 1. the pulse shape does not distort in spite of the group dispersion of a glass fiber and 2. the pulse shape, whose width spreads in the presence of the fiber loss, can be reshaped only by appropriate amplifications.
