Abstract

Roller-compacted concrete (RCC) has been used by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for the construction of gravity dams, debris retaining structures, overtopping protection for embankment dams and levees, pavements, and other applications since 1978. This paper presents the design, construction, and performance histories of selected RCC applications, including Willow Creek Dam, Elk Creek Dam, Addicks and Barker Dams, Chena River Lake Project, and RCC Pavements. Based on the experience obtained to date, the performance of RCC, when properly designed and constructed, is not inferior to the conventional concrete.
