Islam as a Total System

Abstract

The main question raised and addressed in this chapter relates to the implementation of Islamic criminal law as a component of Islamic revivalism. A number of prominent Muslim scholars have held that singling out ḥudūd as an isolated aspect while shariah as a whole is not implemented is less than advisable. The opposite opinion holds that the implementation of Islamic criminal law offers a good answer to the problem of rising criminality.
