Paper Entergy - Intelligent Electronic Device Management System

Abstract

Universal management of Intelligent Electronic Device (IEDs) for NERC CIP compliance and operational effectiveness comes with many challenges. A comprehensive IED management system (IEDMS) must span many departments and stakeholder's requirements. Ensuring all stakeholders' needs are captured requires time, coordination and a corporate prioritization of the project. This paper outlines the process Entergy went through to create the RFP and the requirements Entergy identified for their IEDMS project to be successful. Business drivers and technical requirements that shape the IEDMS project and the main drivers for the project. The ongoing project is overcoming funding challenges to implement a complex IEDMS project in a costeffective manner. An overview the project, cost challenges and the benefits Entergy receives now and in the future from the IEDMS project are identified.
