Expressions of Fear in Children and Early Adolescence

Abstract

This research aims to define the changing appearance of illustration, through one of its early field of application—children and early adolescence books, in terms of fear. Perceiving the expressions of fear through current children and early adolescence publications and related events is es-sential. Being that, even illustration’s taking part in various fields other than the common ones has only a quarter century past, its relation with fear can be seen in the very early works. On the other hand, even the appearances in current production methods change amid developments, encountering with the appearance of fear increasingly continues. Visualization of the concept of fear seems to be deeply connected with the history of visual production methods of hu-mankind so instead of sorting out this relation it becomes more complex as various approaches add up through time. The aim of this research is to contextualize the subject with its reasons, within the context of accessible, recognizable publishers and relevant events, through outstanding examples and to examine its evolution from contemporary to future work. Alongside visual research methods, related examples are evaluated and referred to relevant indications. Therefore, examining these interrelated topics in course of time through various examples, not only analysis of visual pro-duction methods is completed but going beyond situation assessment, it is expected to contribute to future production procedures by putting forward findings.
