Aspects of Implementation of Digital Substation Technology in Medium Voltage Switchgear

Abstract

The need for innovative solutions in medium voltage (MV) switchgear is associated primarily with a large number of copper wires both inside and between switchgear cells, multiple duplication of analog and digital signal lines caused by need of multiple signal receivers, i.e. protective relay, telecontrol unit, measurements, etc. A large share of manual labor and the complexity of switchgear cell testing decreases reliability and increases costs in production, commissioning and operation of switchgear cells.
