Abstract
This paper presents a simple, effective and novel technique for suppression of the back lobe generated in microstrip patch antennas miniaturized using Complimentary Split Ring Resonator (CSRR) loaded ground planes. Addition of the extra substrate with ground plane creates an improvement of the front-to-back ratio of the radiation pattern resulting in increase of the gain achieved. Overall radiating surface area is reduced up to 52.29% using this technique while maintaining gain and other essential parameters. A detailed comparative analysis is then carried out between this novel technique and with normal CSRR loaded patch and also partially shorted patch antennas. All designs are created to resonate at the center frequency of 2.6GHz in the S-Band. All the proposed antennas have been simulated and fabricated.
