Abstract
With a decrease of thermal generation units, reactive power compensation systems (RPCS) are more frequently utilized as controllable reactive power sources. Currently used Static Var Compensator (SVC) models only offer reactive power provision. With the increasing number of RPCS their significance in economic considerations rises. In order to enable the calculation of operational costs, this paper presents a model of a SVC which provides a projection of active power losses and how to implement them into power flow programs.
