Abstract
Vehicular location systems are able to pinpoint a vehicle to within several meters of its true position. These systems share the common requirement of being highly application specific. The application of vehicular location systems to public transit is examined by presenting some of the highlights of the developmental history of automatic vehicle location and control systems for the North American public transit environment.
