Abstract
The main task of higher education in engineering is to provide for students a specific set of knowledge, skills and attitudes to be able applying them in conceiving, designing, implementing, and operating systems, products, processes and projects. Therefore, students, as future engineers, must be technical, on the one hand, but socially responsible and eager to innovate, on the other hand. Moreover, it is well known that engineering is perceived as the driver of innovation along with economic development. An effectively, innovating and applied engineering can be the determinant factor even for the poverty reduction, sustainable development and climate change. In this context, the present article aims at identifying the propensity of candidates’ form Transylvania region of Romania for Electrical and Power Engineering Education. An overview on some related factors of the economic environment is provided focused on specific opportunities and threats of the engineering hiring market analyses. The global, European and local situation have been considered. The study case on Technical University of Cluj-Napoca insists on particularities of Electrical and Power Engineering admission issues. The analyze of admission candidate’s evolution since 2012 display an increasing attraction to the electrical engineering domain.
