ATV and cable-a happy marriage

Abstract

The standards-making process is underway for terrestrial ATV broadcasting. 54% of TV households are connected to cable. Whatever standard arises for broadcasting will have a major impact on delivery by cable. A description of the spectrum-compatible high-definition television (SC-HDTV) advanced television (ATV) system is followed by a discussion of the system's application to consumer signal delivery by cable television. Satellite, terrestrial broadcasting and VCR delivery are also discussed.<>
