The terms “competence”, “competency”, and “foreign language competence” are defined. Linguistic, social, and communicative basic components are distinguished in a structure of the foreign language competence. It is emphasized that the foreign language competence of electrical engineering students includes such essential features as openness, dynamism, purposefulness, anthropocentrism, value, nonlinearity, hierarchy, and self-control. It is proved that the course “Foreign Language for Specific Purposes” plays an important role in humanization of future electrical engineers, in development of their personal and general scientific competencies, and in improvement of the quality of their professional training. Abstract
The paper deals with the analysis of the ways of developing a foreign language competence in a context of improving the quality of electrical engineering students professional training.
