ULUN ANTUNG AND ITS’ ROLE IN SOSIAL ORGANISATION OF MURUT TAHOL

Abstract

Ulun Antung or the leader of the Murut Tahol community has a major role in their social organization. The role does not only touch on political issues, but also covers economic, social and cultural aspects. This paper will discuss on Ulun Antung and some aspects related to the leadership of the Murut Tahol community such as pahun (longhouse) and persanakan. This is important so that we can understand the position of Ulun Antung in this society. This paper was written as an effort to add to the collection of cultural documentation of traditional Sabah society. The information or data obtained in this writing is base on a literature review, and a field study conducted by the author in the Tenom district, particularly in Kampung Alutok, Ulu Tomani. The information contained in this paper is specific to the Murut Tahol community in the study area only. May this paper be able to provide knowledge and benefit especially to the academics, society, and the younger generation.
