Abstract

Driven by the requirement of knowing the rotor position in a permanent magnet generator (PMG), this work evaluates the performance of different position detection algorithms in a new domain of application were their use has not been reported before. Computer simulations and experimental tests are used to evaluate the characteristics and robustness of algorithms originally proposed for permanent magnet motors (PMM). Based on that evaluation, one algorithm is selected for implementation in a DSP, which requires some enhancements and additional features.
