Abstract

We advance the notion of a "living book" to explore how digital texts can enhance the potential for emotional relationships between readers and books. Our prototype of a living book, called Nellodee, is a user interface system to help readers to be companion with books. In this paper, we present two key concepts of Nellodee: head gesture recognition for expressions of opinion, and kinetic typography as emotional feedback.
