Abstract
In this paper we investigate electrical and thermal characteristics of two modifications of optical ground wire cables. The simulations are carried out by coupled equations, i.e., the electrical and thermal effects are considered simultaneously in order to increase accuracy of the results. The calculations of the current density in the cross-section of the cables are based on the electromagnetic field theory. In the thermal analysis, the principles of heat transfer by conduction and of thermal equilibrium are used. The numerical results are obtained by the software COMSOL which is based on the finite element method.
