Abstract
This article is dealing with the issue related to the matrix converters (MxC), especially with the analysis of the power losses and efficiency of the matrix converter in a $3\times 5$ configuration. In today’s modern world, efficiency is especially taken into the account, so analysis of the power losses and efficiency is a great deal during the design process of the modern semiconductor converters. The faster evaluation of the power losses can significantly reduce the required design time. The presented model is using modern SiC semiconductors which have significant advantages in comparison to the IGBT transistors. The model of the $3\times 5$ converter is presented together with power losses analysis in different parts of the converter eg. the power circuit, input filter, and so on. At the end of the paper summary of the simulated results is presented together with the pros and cons of using SiC semiconductors in bidirectional switches for matrix converters.
