Abstract

Fragility fracture is a fracture resulting from mechanical forces that would not ordinarily result in fractures known as low-level trauma. Fragility fracture due to osteoporosis is not so uncommon in men >50 years of age, the prevalence of osteoporosis is approximately 2% at age of 50 years, and the male has a 1:5 chance of osteoporotic fractures. The lifetime risk of fracture in men aged 50 or more is between 13 and 30 %, and out of this 10 % of fractures were at the forearm. As per osteoporosis fragility fracture guidelines should be assessed for risk factors like Previous fragility fracture, Use of glucocorticoids, History of falls, Family history of hip fractures, Low Body mass index i.e. BMI < 18.5 kg/m2, Smoking and alcohol intake history >21 units/ week.
