The Process of Ratification by Germany of the Treaty on Croatia’s Accession to the EU in the Coverage of the German Press (2012-2013)

Abstract

The article deals with the problem of coverage by the leading socio-political publications of Germany of the process of ratification by the Bundestag of the treaty on Croatia’s accession to the European Union. The press focused on the assessments of the German political leadership, actively publishing statements by German politicians about Croatia’s readiness to join the community and prospects for the development of economic cooperation between Germany and Croatia. The author comes to the conclusion that the positive attitude of the German leadership to the prospects of Croatia’s accession to the EU is due to the combination of Germany’s economic and political interests in the Western Balkan region.
