Abstract
This paper presents the study of voltage stability improvement of Bac Lieu-Viet Nam power grid including the connected Doubly Fed Induction Generator (DFIG) based wind turbine. A Static Synchronous Compensator (STATCOM) is proposed and is connected to the weakest stability node of the studied system that is figured out based on the power flow calculation results. The analysed voltage results and time- domain response are also presented in order to estimate the effectiveness of the proposed STATCOM to the studied system. Simulation results are performed by using PowerWorld commercial software under a severe three-phase short circuit fault happened at the STATCOM connected bus. It is clearly to conclude from the simulation results that the proposed STATCOM is a suitable device to enhance the voltage stability of a Bac Lieu-Viet Nam power grid.
