Abstract
This study aims to analyze the need for developing STEAM-based augmented reality (AR) learning media in natural science subjects in elementary schools. This research method used a combination of quantitative and qualitative research methods. This study's subjects consisted of seven elementary school teachers and 116 public elementary school students in Tuban Regency. Besides, the research instruments employed were questionnaires and telephone interviews. This study's results revealed that teachers were not fully aware of STEAM-based augmented reality learning media. The types of media needed by students and teachers are those that can represent material in-depth and are interactive, such as videos and animations. In addition, each process is explained in detail and clear media so that students can understand the material and apply it. Therefore, the development of STEAM-based interactive multimedia in natural science learning is very much needed in elementary schools, especially in implementing 21st-century learning. Based on the research results and discussion, it can be concluded that: 1) teachers did not fully know about Augmented Reality media and the STEAM approach, 2) teachers had a good perception of STEAM-based Augmented Reality media, and 3) teachers hope there is a natural science learning media, which can represent material in-depth and interactively, such as videos and animations, where each process is explained in detailed and clear media so that students can understand the material and apply it. For this reason, the development of STEAM-based interactive AR multimedia in natural science learning is very much needed in elementary schools.
