Abstract
Chinese reading courses at the university aim to improve students' reading and thinking ability by offering different texts. This research used “Hotel in the Desert” written by San Mao as the theme of reading and creative thinking and discussion. The teaching time is 8 hours in four weeks, and the effectiveness of the two modes of online learning and blended learning is compared. The main difference between the experimental group and the control group is that the experimental group conducts face-to-face discussions in the classroom, while the control group discusses on the online platform. The results of the study found that both students' personal quantitative performance and teamwork performance (qualitative to quantitative results) showed that face-to-face discussions were better than online discussions; and there was a significant difference in effectiveness after independent sample T test. Therefore, this study believes that the appropriate use of E-learning in reading courses has teaching benefits but face-to-face discussion learning is still indispensable and it is of irreplaceable importance to enhance the effectiveness of teaching interaction and discussion.
