Social Entrepreneurship in Bulgaria: Barriers to Growth

Abstract

The discussions on social and economic benefits of social enterprises in the context of Europe 2020 is the key point in a number of strategic and program documents. The paper presents social enterprises as a successful business model but also outlines the main challenges to their development. The study concludes on the main principles that should be followed by the national policies and measures to promote social entrepreneurship in Bulgaria. The problems in social enterprises development are summarized and conclusions and recommendations are made regarding the national legislation development and good practices exchange, as well as information provision, experience and competences development.
