The author investigates the multidimensionality of the main directions and forms of work of education and science representatives of the historical period under the study. Methods. The research tools for the study were chronological and content, incremental, historical, pedagogical and comparative methods. Results. The available historical facts showed that even the abolition of serfdom in the beginning of 1860s did not bring the desired socio-cultural relief, and became another \"talisman\" to overcome the regional dispersion of the intelligentsia. The essence of such socio-political interplay can be explained, first of all, by the fact that the imperial machine focused on the development of productive forces during the reform, which had no relation to the continuous raising of the national-patriotic spirit, which was already difficult to stop by the declarative existing ideology. The insurmountable desire of the scientific and educational intelligentsia to overcome the excessive socio-cultural oppression of the operating apparatus, through the development of a network of educational measures throughout the territory, rooted in the phenomenal traditions of enlightenment, which included the transboundary transfer of what was wise and what was good to the fertile educational ground of different countries of the world. Originality. The use of the variety of methodological tools allowed noting that the activities of national pedagogical staff updated the expansion of dissemination trajectory of educational ideas in the pro-Ukrainian territory, which became a peculiar foundation for building a graduate system of vocational education. Conclusion. The results of the study showed that, in the regional conditions, representatives of the national intelligentsia worked on the development of education, which finally gave an impetus to the restoration of Ukraine's independence in the following period.
