Hebben mensen met autisme vaker een autistische partner?

Abstract

Among 1212 adult participants with and without autism, binary logistic regression analyses were used to investigate whether having an autism diagnosis and the extent to which autistic traits are present were predictive of having an autistic partner. Autistic participants (12.3%) more oft en had autistic partners than participants without autism (7%). Autistic women more oft en had autistic partners (14.5%) than autistic men (9.1%). Autistic traits were not predictive of having an autistic partner. Within the autism group, there was no association between having a partner with or without autism and relationship satisfaction.On the contrary, this association between relationship satisfaction and the diagnosis of the partner was found to be present within the control group. More research is needed to investigate partner resemblance and its potential consequences.
