Abstract
Asystematic review of child counseling research was conducted to examine how dimensions of cultural identity have been addressed with children. These dimensions included race, sex, disability, gender, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, ethnicity, and culture. Research methodology and historical trends were also considered. The analysis of 46 studies suggested that cultural identity has not been sufficiently explored in child counseling research and that there are significant gaps between theory and practice. More rigorous qualitative and quantitative research is needed to explore the process of change and outcome with culturally diverse children.
