Abstract
This paper presents the technologies typically used in advanced metering infrastructures of smart electricity metering systems in smart grids scenarios, as well the key points of their deployment in Europe and USA, including the regulatory aspects and policies associated. The research shows the technologies most applied in smart meter roll-out programs and, therefore, in smart electricity metering systems, between HAN households and electricity companies. The work also exposes the distinctions of the realities of the policies for the deployment of smart metering systems in Europen Union and the USA. In its development, the work serves as a source of reference that aggregates both the technical and regulatory aspects of smart electricity metering systems and in a straightforward manner, it also fits for decision-makers researchers in the areas of regulation and policy of electricity supply.
