The primary functions of REMS are to provide health and radiological monitoring for workers as well as area environmental monitoring for the public and thus to assist in the protection against ionizing radiation during ITER operations, including maintenances, and decommissioning. The Radiologically-Controlled Facilities at ITER, to be monitored by REMS are the Tokamak Building, the Tritium Plant Building, the Hot Cell Facility, the Radwaste Facility and the Personnel Access Control Building.
