Abstract
A new steel-making process and its control strategy in the steady state is introduced. For the last 10 years, many research groups in the world have taken up the idea of strip casting and built laboratory and prototype plants for the casting of steel by the twin-roll process. Strip casting has already reached an advanced stage of development on sizable pilot plant. At present, efforts are concentrated on how to make the process reliable over a long heat period by optimizing the strip caster. Since 1989, Korea's POSCO (Pohang Iron & Steel Co., Ltd.) and RIST have been collaborating on a project to develop strip casting to a commercially viable process for the production of stainless and carbon steels. In this paper, the problems of the strip casting process and its control method in the steady state are presented.
