Abstract

In the hair of 41 normal newborn children the trace elements zinc, copper, manganese, and gold were followed up longitudinally by neutron activation analysis, the samples (whole length of hair) being taken at the lst day of life, between the 63th and 109th, the 200th and 240th, the 368th and 478th as well as between 700th and 881th day of life. The trace element changes in the hair of babies resulted in the remarkeble observation, that within the first 3 months of life zinc, copper and gold contents show a considerable increase, followed by a decrease.
