Abstract

This paper proposes a method for detecting primary heart sounds (S1 and S2), extra heart sounds (S3 and S4), murmur, and other abnormal sounds (split, click, and ejection click). The method uses the signal envelope, extracted from Shannon's Energy, as its starting point for the detection process. The process distinguishes each heart sound by analysing the signal's characteristic (peak frequency, peak duration, peak interval, total power and amplitude), extracted from each signal segment.
