Abstract

Using the solution to the electrostatic problem for the perpendicular orientation of the external field, an algorithm to calculate the polarizability of small non-confocal multi-layered spheroids is suggested. The polarizability of such a particle is proportional to the first element of the T-matrix and can be found as a product of infinite matrices. Numerical calculations have shown that, to find the polarizability of a multi-layered spheroid in the case of the perpendicular orientation of the external field, one can apply the confocal approximation, when the only term is kept in the field expansions, and get the result with the relative error less than 0.1%.
