Abstract

This paper presents an inexpensive and reliable solution for control of the start-up process in a single-phase, capacitor-start capacitor-run induction motor. In general it is required to disconnect the starting capacitor at some point during ramp up of the motor. This could be dependent on the speed of the motor or a preset time. The solution in this paper is based on a triac as a power switch to turn off the capacitor, while the criterion for turn off is time based.
