Abstract
Digital modulation has created a revolution in RF and microwave communications. The traditional methods of peak power measurement can no longer fully satisfy its test requirements. So the statistical methods are introduced to analyze the characteristics of the digitally modulated signals. In this paper, the techniques used in peak power measurement are firstly proposed. Then the usual probability functions and their implementations in a peak power analyzer are discussed in detail. According to the complex digitally modulated signals in modern wireless communications and their power measurement demand, the statistical method of CCDF is fully studied. Emphasis is placed on the selection of modulation scheme, the design and test of RF component and the evaluation of spread-spectrum. In the end we draw a conclusion that CCDF can effectively describe the power statistical characteristics of digitally modulated signals and is becoming a necessary design and testing tool in wireless communication.
