Satellite Insulation Blankets with Conductive Threads Mesh as an Electromagnetic Shield

Abstract

This paper describes the insulation blankets of the satellites with conductive threads used for electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection. Insulation blankets are usually used for thermal protection. However, conductive thread can protect satellites form ESD as well. Using conductive threads mesh can protect the satellite as well from the electromagnetic fields on microwave frequencies.
