Abstract

This paper discusses the architecture of a highly-integrated subsystem for optical disc engines that operate with write-once (CD-R, DVD+R) and erasable (CD-RW DVD+RW) media. Cost-efficient, high-performance optical disc players and recorders for audio/video and computer applications can be built by using only a few additional integrated circuits (ICs).
